In this video from Learn Electrics we will look at why a fuse will not blow, or a circuit breaker not trip, at the rated current stated on the device. After all, a 5 amp fuse is a five amp fuse – right?
Questions about this all started with a drawing about TT systems in an earlier video.
5 amps working current flows through a 6A breaker and into the load – and 5A flows out again. 5 amps is less than 6 amps so the breaker does not trip.
But what happens if the load develops a fault and now there is an additional fault current taking the total load up to 8 amps?
Surely the breaker will trip now – but no!
All is explained in easy to follow steps.
