An important skill for any electrician is to be able to calculate cable resistances for given cable lengths and to able to determine the R1+R2 values for the different circuits in the building.

And the opposite is equally an essential skill to understand.

If we know the circuit resistance can we determine the length of the circuit whether that is single cables, radial circuits or ring circuits.

How will a circuit’s resistance be affected by using different size conductors in the installation?

We answer these questions in an easy to follow style, give examples of the calculations that can be very easily understood and can be used in real life situations when on site and when designing an installation.
