This video will show you how to comply with BS7671 Wiring Regulations, the Electricity at Work Regulations and the Health and Safety at Work Act if you are asked to install a metallic luminaire with exposed conductive parts to a lighting circuit with no cpc or earth.
Two acceptable methods are shown and the relevant extracts from the Wiring Regulations are given to show you how these methods comply with your legal duties as regards to the health and safety of the users of the installation.
Customers frequently want to upgrade their lighting whilst re-decorating, unaware that they have purchased class 1 light fittings but that their property has no earth in the lighting circuits. This was a common, and permissible, practice in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
