We are often asked which Zs figures to use, and yes, it’s true that the books have different Zs numbers for the same circuit breaker. For many, especially new learners, there is some confusion over which numbers to use and what the numbers actually mean.
And it does matter which numbers are used – of course. If we look in the Wiring Regulations book, the big brown book, we will find Zs values for the different breakers and fuses and another, totally different value is shown in the On-Site Guide and in the Electricians Guide to the Building Regulations.
Why are there two sets of data. But that’s not the end of the story, there is a third value, different again, in the same Wiring Regs book.
In this video we will help you to understand why we have different numbers for the same breaker or fuse and show you how to calculate the different values.
This is video number 213 and there are many more videos on a wide range of electrical topics on the YouTube channel and on the website.
