How do we go about actually tracing a 3 phase circuit when all the conductors are the same colour, are all unmarked and all are unidentified?
This is a much more common occurrence that we realise. There have been many occasions where machinery has been moved before we arrive on site. All that we are left with are several unidentified conductors appearing from some conduit, the other end of which is in another part of the building.
No drawings, no clues, no nothing and we have to find the correct cables. There can often be many more than five conductors and they all need to be identified.
This video will show you one very effective way to find the correct sequence of the conductors. How to identify wire number one at both ends, wire number two and so on. It’s not difficult but it must be approached in a methodical and organised way.
