This video looks at an often over-looked potential source of danger in domestic consumer units.
With the BS7671 Wiring Regulations requirement that we now install fire-resistant consumer units it is common place to use steel consumer units.
However, there are additional safety concerns for the cables when using these enclosures.
If the cables into these steel enclosures are not correctly installed there is the possibility of unwanted heating effects within the cables.
Ordinarily, this heating effect is minimal, but the fact that it has been identified as a possible source of fire by the relevant authorities means that we are obliged to do something about it.
This video will show you the reasons for this, why there is a right way and a wrong way to install the cables and what the Wiring Regulations require you to do when installing the cables into ferromagnetic (metallic) enclosures.
